Frequently Asked Questions

What is Books on the Transit?

It’s just like it sounds! It’s a book sharing initiative on Metrolinx & TTC property (busses, trains, streetcars, platform) in Toronto & GTA to encourage commuters to fall in love with reading again. There are new books every day, and they’re there to be taken, read, shared, and most importantly, enjoyed!

What do I do with the books?

Just follow the instructions on our sticker, “Ride, Read, and Return”. If you find a book on the transit, feel free to take it home with you, read it, and be sure to return it back on Toronto transit for other commuters to enjoy!

How can I share my books?

Participate in our Book Bandits program (our version of Book Fairies!). Email us at booksonthetransit@gmail.com to get started.

I’m an author – how do I get involved?

We would love to partner with you and share your work with Torontonians! Please reach out to us at booksonthetransit@gmail.com to get started.

I’m a publisher – how can I get involved?

We would love to partner with you! Please reach out to us at booksonthetransit@gmail.com to get started.

What if people don't return the books?

Our primary missions are to promote a love of reading, community engagement, and random acts of kindness. We sincerely hope others will continue the sharing cycle of a book but of course, we operate on an honour system so we cannot guarantee.
